HISTORY
On 30th Apr 1975 at 10:45am, two T54 tanks number 390 (commander: Lieutenant Toan, Vu Dang) and 843 (commander: Lieutenant Than, Bui Quang) of the 203rd Armored Brigade, 2nd Division's Liberation Army crashed through the gates of Independence Palace, announcing the fall of SaiGon regime and the Victory of Ho Chi Minh Campain, united the Viet Nam country. The VietNam war was over.
This tank was one of thousand tanks of NVA in HoChiMinh Campaign. This Campaign was a Great Spring Victory, it combined South and North VietNam.
In fact, the No. 843 (right on the photograph) banged into the gate first. However, it got trapped in the secondary gate's pillar and the engine failed at that point. The tank No. 843 commander decided to leave the tank and ran into the palace with a liberation flag on the hand (black arrow on the photograph).
The leading No. 390 (left on the photograph) had been followed by No. 843
before both tanks arrived at the street through the front of the president palace. Tank No. 390 instantly overran the main gate immediately after No. 843 commander had left his tank as photograph shows.
Today, this tank is a legend tank of VietNam, it is a National Treasure. A copy of it was put in the garden of Reunification Place, as a history museum.
